You may love your job as a staff nurse, but sometimes you may feel like you have more potential than your current position.So without any further ado, here are our top tips on how to advance your career as a staff nurse.
The role of a chef de partie is one of the most important jobs in any kitchen. Here at Three Q we’re a hands on recruitment team who work to match our clients with the perfect Chef de Partie for the job. How hands on are we? Right now I’m a Recruitment Consultant working full time with Three Q medical recruitment agency in Dublin, but this came about as the start of a new journey at the end of another, older process. Before I started working in my current role, I spent a few months as an Intern HR Candidate Resourcer with the Agency. This is how I initially got acquainted with not only the Agency itself but also with the recruitment industry as a whole. As we are now in the process of taking on new interns , I have been asked to share some of my impressions of the programme we have here.
Before coming to Three Q, I had no experience in recruitment, nor did I have much idea about what to expect about working in the industry. What I did have was a willingness to learn new skills and a pro-active attitude to taking on real work in a dynamic SME with a good track record. Walking into the interview room, it quickly became apparent that this company was the right one for me and to my great relief I was asked back to a second round interview and offered the position shortly thereafter.
Again not quite sure what to expect, I walked through the door of the office in February and started trying to get to grips with my new role. What I found was that Three Q had a fantastic training and induction program in place for new team members, which got me acclimatised with what was expected of me very quickly.
I use the term team member as opposed to intern not by chance but by design – because while I was an intern, it very quickly became clear to me that I was a full and valued member of the Three Q team. A shredding and filing internship, as we so often hear of, this was most certainty not. As an SME operating in a constantly changing and high pressure environment, the work I did for Three Q had measurable, important value in supporting the recruiters I was working with. I was fully exposed to every aspect of the operation – from candidate management to marketing to CRM. The management support structures in place where also fantastic – there was never a point at which I felt I couldn’t approach anyone in the chain of command, from the Lead Resourcer who was training me, to the Managing Director of the recruitment Agency for support or advice.
Every aspect of what I did was backed up by a robust standard of formal and informal training. On top of on-the-job training and shadowing senior team members, I was sent on training exercises with the National College of Ireland and the National Recruitment Federation when the opportunity came up, and engaged in client site visits to get to know the people we work with better. This was not an internship where a workload was dropped on my desk and no support given – I was genuinely supported every step of the way.
While we all work very hard here, we take the time to have fun too. All the staff here are friendly and while we are focused on the task at hand, there is a lot of laughter and banter in the office too. There are team meals and staff nights out, performance incentives and little traditions in the office. We’re a close-knit team, and an open one.
When I took the decision to make a long-term career out of recruitment and try to progress into a Recruitment Consultant role, the career advice and support I got from the Three Q agency was invaluable before, during and after the decision had been made. So much so that within a short enough period of time I was put on the path towards becoming a Trainee Recruitment Consultant with the Agency.
When my internship finished in June of 2015, I was officially offered a contract as a Trainee Recruiter with the Agency. From the point of view of somebody who has gained a passion for the recruitment industry, this could not have worked out better. However, even had I not decided to progress with a career specifically in this field, the experience would have been invaluable regardless, and the support and advice I would have received in terms of anything I wanted to do from there would have been no less earnest or important. Fast forward a year and a half later and not only am I still here (as a fully-fledged Consultant and key account manager), but the supports, training and camaraderie have only improved since first joining the agency.
So if you have high energy, an enthusiastic attitude, are eager to learn and easy to laugh, I’d hugely recommend looking into an internship at Three Q. I did it, and now I couldn’t imagine wanting to work anywhere else.
