Assistant to Director of Nursing

Reporting:

The post holder will report to the Director of Nursing.

 

Hours of Work:

5 days over 7, every second weekend included. 

 

 Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide high standard of professional/clinical leadership which promotes efficiently, innovation, and continuous improvements. 
  • Supervision of qualified and non qualified staff
  • To ensure the delivery of the highest standards of nursing, social care, support and advice which meets the individual needs of each resident.
  • Provision of continuing education to all staff by teaching and guiding staff during the execution of their duties.
  • Participate in staff appraisal and reviews
  • To promote high standards of communication and teamwork.
  • To ensure compliance with health & safety regulations
  • Hands on approach with residents particularly in times of staff shortages holiday cover, and other busy periods.
  • Ensure adherence to all guidelines and regulation with respect to the ordering, storage and administration of medication.
  • Ensure all nursing staff abides by the appropriate guidelines and policies in the execution of their duties.
  • Liaise with Doctors, families, social services, and other external agencies.
  • Spot check all nursing documentation and report inaccuracies to Director of Nursing
  • Support the Director of Nursing in the development of monitoring and review of care plans
  • Participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures
  • Monitor the quality and quantity of food served to residents.  Ensure all food served is appropriate to their individual needs.
  • Respond to all complaints in a timely manner and according to policy or refer to Director of Nursing when appropriate.  Inform Director of Nursing of all complaints and their outcomes.
  • Implementation of named Nurse/Key worker system
  • To respect and promote the philosophy, value and ethics of the Nursing Home

 

 

Other duties

  • Ensure weekly / monthly weights and blood pressure checks are completed
  • Pharmacy checking once a month
  • Checking pharmacy stocks
  • Regular spot checks of standards of care and time taken to answer bells etc

 

This job description is intended to give an appreciation of the role of Clinical Nurse Manager however, given the nature of the work it must be stressed that maximum flexibility is required.  It does not attempt to detail every activity.  Specific tasks and objectives will be agreed periodically with the Director of Nursing.
