Mahy’s Story – Internship with Three Q recruitment Dublin

I moved to Dublin, Ireland in February this year, and I started a long search for job hunting. I wanted to start a new career in recruitment in Dublin.  I always believed it is best when you start your career from scratch to try an internship.  It just lets you explore everything about the role, and helps you gain more confidence in what you are doing. I had a short assignment in recruitment with my previous employer and I enjoyed it a lot, so I thought that this could be the field I start working in, so I started to look for internships.

I joined Three Q PERMS & TEMPS recruitment agency in Dublin, in June 2016, as an Intern Recruitment Consultant, I had an idea of what I was expecting out of the internship, and I was eager to learn. When I started my internship, I was introduced to the Three Q team, and you get to sit and talk with each member, know what they do, and how you are going to work together, which I found to be a very good initiative, as it gave me a broad understanding of what is the company doing, and how the team works towards the company’s goals.

As an Intern at this recruitment agency, I always felt I was part of the team, because I was simply treated like a team member, and everyone was willing to help and share their experience and best practice, and at the same time we had fun (good craic actually!).

I have learned a lot in Three Q, and I believe my internship with them was a very successful experience, I completed my 3 month-internship, and I am now a Trainee Recruitment consultant.   I signed my permanent contract in October (Whoop Whoop!!), and I think I am now a more confident recruiter, and have developed many skills that would certainly be of a great value to my career.

The Importance of Training Plans for Employee Morale

The importance of training plans for employee morale cannot be over estimated.  Happy employees are motivated employees and this leads straight to your bottom line.  Training plans ensure that employees have a better understanding of what is asked of them and ensures that whatever you see as fit for their role, is known to them. It makes employees much more confident in their role and in turn gives you confidence in your employee’s abilities. Here is a few points to think about when adding training to your company.

1. Stress training as investment. The reason training is often considered optional at many companies is because it is thought of as an expense rather than an investment. While it’s true that training can be costly up front, it’s a long-term investment in the growth and development of your human resources.

2. Determine your needs. As you probably don’t have unlimited time or funds to execute an employee training program, you should decide early on what the focus of your training program should be.

3. Promote a culture of learning amongst employees. In today’s fast-paced economy, if a business isn’t learning, it’s going to fall behind. A business learns as its people learn. Communicate your expectations that all employees should take the necessary steps to hone their skills and stay on top of their professions or fields of work. Make sure you support those efforts by providing the resources needed to accomplish this goal.

4. Get management on board. Once you have developed a prioritized list of training topics that address key needs within your company, you need to convince management to rally behind the initiative.

5. Start out small. Before rolling out your training program to the masses, rehearse with a small group of users and gather their feedback. This sort of informal benchmarking exposes weaknesses in your training plans and helps you fine-tune the training process.

6. Clarify connections. Some employees may feel that the training they’re receiving isn’t relevant to their job. It’s important to help them understand the connection early on, so they don’t view the training sessions as a waste of valuable time. Employees should see the training as an important addition to their professional portfolios. Award people with completion certificates at the end of the program.

7. Make it ongoing. Don’t limit training solely to new employees. Organized, ongoing training programs will maintain all employees’ skill levels, and continually motivate them to grow and improve professionally.

8. Measure results. Without measurable results, it’s almost impossible to view training as anything but an expense. Decide how you’re going to obtain an acceptable rate of return on your investment. Determine what kind of growth or other measure is a reasonable result of the training you provide. You’ll have an easier time budgeting funds for future training if you can demonstrate concrete results.

James’s Story – Internship with Three Q hospitality recruitment agency

This is my story about working as an intern with Three Q hospitality recruitment agency.  It was first suggested to me by a guidance counsellor through the social welfare office after I had been on the live register for one year that I should take a look at the jobs bridge scheme. My first thought was no way! I can get a fully payed job on my own. I just haven’t really being trying all that hard for the last year, as I had a part time position with an events company, which suited me down to the ground and anyway I had full confidence in my skills and my experience!  After I looked at what was available on jobs boards and having dropped my cv into every recruitment agency  in Dublin known to man (getting no joy from anyone) I finally reluctantly had a look at the jobs bridge website. I found 2 roles straight away that spiked my interest, one of which was with Three Q Hospitality Recruitment Agency in Dublin. I had a look at their testimonials and website and was really impressed.

 After I applied I received a screening call within a day and then a follow up email and call inviting me in for interview. After 2 rounds of interviews I was offered the internship. It had been over 7 years since I had worked in an office environment so I was a little nervous and made plenty of mistakes at first. After 3 months, I had my first performance review, it went well enough but as I suspected I had made a couple of mistakes but having communicated them to me I did not make the same mistakes again. Another 3 months later and my internship was about to end, Three Q Hospitality Recruitment wanted to keep me on, however at that moment they were unable to hire me as there was no job available. They did however give me a great indication that if I extended my jobs bridge that there would more than likely be a job at the end of the tunnel.

Skip forward another 3 months and YES!! Three Q Perms & Temps had offered me a job, I was delighted, having not really worked in a small/medium sized business before.  I found my skills and expertise grew exponentially and much quicker than in a large company. That was down to the support and attention given to me by management and the team as a whole. My experience as a whole has been amazing and I have grown and developed new skills (a full 360 to when I was first told to look at internships) which I will now be able to take with me and transfer into any job. If I could give anyone looking for an internship some advice it would be to research the job and company first and then throw yourself fully into it, you will only get out of it what you put into it.

Three Q Medical Recruitment Agency turns 17

Three Q PERMS & TEMPS medical recruitment agency were delighted to reach the ripe old age of 17 in September this year. To celebrate the event, Cora and the team in Head Office finished out the day early to spend the afternoon in style at the Guinness Storehouse overlooking the vast city of Dublin.

Sipping his pint of Guinness or “Blonde in a Black Dress” as he affectionately calls it, Padraig Hogan had this to say about Three Q’s seventeen years in the recruitment industry:

“Being in the recruitment industry particularly for the past 17 years is a real achievement – not least because Ireland has seen so many changes. Through the recession agencies have been particularly relied upon for people who are in desperate need of jobs, whether in the medical profession or hospitality sector. Three Q is a great company to work for, I’ve been expanding my own skills here and I’ve learned so much. It really is a privilege to work for them.”

Having taken in the history and scenery of the beautiful Guinness building, the team went on to enjoy a family-style dinner in Yamamori Sushi on Bachelor’s walk. Senior Recruitment Consultant Conor Ryan, who is a great lover of sushi, had this to say of the evening;

“It’s such a nice dinner! It’s a little different but I like it. It’s lovely to be here as a team and we are all really enjoying ourselves. It’s so great to be able to enjoy each other’s company both out as well as inside of the office. The company are so kind to treat us to such a lovely day out.”

Full and happy, the group then moved on to Lott’s pub, just off Liffey St., where the festivities continued with a team pub quiz. All involved had a fabulous evening.
